SPOILERS OF THE END OF THE ANIME IN THIS POST

Things definitely went out with a bang. When I first started out this anime I didn’t expect it to be quite so violent; I thought it would be a more lighthearted show, perhaps due to the bright color scheme. But there definitely ended up being quite a bit of blood of gore, especially in the last two episodes. I do find it interesting that the violence is condemned if it is initiated by “bad guys” like Moral, while it’s viewed as heroic when committed by “good guys” like Nice or Takahiro. It’s true that Moral’s acts of violence are unannounced and are directed against innocent people, but even the protagonists are more violent than they would need to be in the name of self defense or stopping a thug. Seems that all the punching people around was put in just because violence is supposed to be cool. (I know right now I sound like the guy who wrote that website ranting about the glorification of violence in The Matrix and how that’s going to corrupt society…I adore the cinematography and choreography of The Matrix’s fights, though) Murasaki looked a bit like Shizuo (Durarara 2nd season is on its way!!) when he fought against those hordes of Minimum holders in the park.

Even though I suspected that Nice wasn’t really dead – in a previous episode, I think I saw a glimpse of a white-haired head on a bed – I was still taken by surprise when he suddenly showed up at the end and quickly disposed of Moral. After all that buildup to Nice’s showdown with Moral, he got taken down so easily…then again, I know the producers must’ve wanted to throw in some plot twists so that the anime would be more memorable. The final scene reminds me a bit of Code Geass since here in Hamatora we have two (former) best friends who are now seemingly enemies now, trying to shoot each other at the very end of the anime’s first season. I’m rather curious how they’re planning to continue Hamatora from here on out. (I’m really glad Murasaki didn’t die, at least.)

It’s actually been a while since I’ve bothered to keep a written record of what anime I’m planning to watch for the upcoming season. I think it’s partially due to the fact that I’ll probably end up changing my mind later on depending on the feedback I see on MAL and elsewhere, and partially due to, well, laziness. But I figured I might as well take a peek at what’s coming up next because I’m currently bored. Not really sure why, considering I have plenty of anime that I plan to watch or that I’ve put on hold, but I guess nothing’s really been amazing to me lately.

My creative juices have dried up, so that was the wittiest possible title I was able to come up with for this post. It’s a bit of a paradox considering that swimming is an aquatic sport. In the literal sense, the water ought to be able to put out a fire (but don’t take my word for it; I attended a swim meet at my school and they had the fire alarms go off even though it was raining hard on an outdoor pool). But if anything, this upcoming anime seems to be starting a lot of flame wars across the Internet, at least as far as I’ve seen in Youtube comments and in MyAnimelist’s forums. Perhaps by now you’re so sick of hearing about Free! that you’ll want to drown me in the next pool you see, but the firestorm of controversy was large enough for me to feel compelled to put in my two cents. And – even more shockingly – I’ll actually put a lid on my normal fangirling tendencies to discuss this, so I hope you’ll be able to think about it calmly and rationally as well – though it seems to be an impossible feat for most people to accomplish nowadays.

Seeing as Kuroko is one of my favorite characters, it would be blasphemous if I didn’t offer up a small tribute to his birthday, even if I’m a few days late. xD His birthday is January 31. So, seeing as I was always a big fan of fanart, I’ve gathered together a few of the ones that were released in the last couple of days to share. I guess it’s kind of more for my own satisfaction, but hopefully you’ll like the art too. ^-^

Despite my recent period of anime burnout, I did decide to take a look at what would be coming out in the next couple of months and see if anything would pique my interest. Unfortunately, there isn’t really anything that I have a strong desire to watch. I don’t know if it’s the plots of the animes or if I just still haven’t regained my interest in anime x_x Might have something to do with the fact that there’s a lot of live action stuff that I’ve meaning to watch, like the other Lord of the Rings movies and Doctor Who.

And now for my first impressions of the animes (based off their descriptions on anime visual charts, and any prior knowledge I happen to have :p ).

This is not going to be a review, considering that I don’t feel I have the ability to give a thorough or objective one, but rather more of a long monologue.  It’s been a very long time since I’ve written anything of this sort or even written anything that wasn’t for school. My desire to write has pretty much died out completely after several years of deadlines and in-class essays. But as of late, I’ve been so stressed out that I’m desperate to find some way to let it out, and since I’d rather avoid thinking about the things that have been bothering me, why not discuss a few things that I’m interested in instead of just listing a ton of Vocaloid songs? :p And I really just find it to be too time-consuming to do episodic blogging of anime, especially considering that I haven’t really been watching any of the ongoing series. (Plus I’m suffering from anime burnout…hopefully that will cure itself with time.)

As you probably guessed, I went to see Wreck-It Ralph recently. Although it was my friends’ idea to take a trip to the movie theater, I was already interested in watching it, considering that it was 1) an animated movie (you’d think I’d outgrow them eventually, but I still enjoy them as much as ever and probably will no matter how old I get), 2) about video games (which I spent much of my childhood playing) and 3) had an interesting premise that I don’t think I’d seen before (not only did we get to “be” in a video game, but characters were jumping from one game to another and even trying to beat those games themselves). So I was really excited to watch this, and as I had expected, I enjoyed it quite thoroughly. But it was also a somewhat saddening experience for me on several counts.

Official art for the Magi anime. Unfortunately I didn’t find any cross-over pics of fall animes that I particularly like D:

Well, it’s certainly started to feel like fall, at least where I am – both in terms of the cooler temperatures and the heavy homework load. -__-;; But I’m sure not matter how busy I get I’ll somehow try to keep an hour or two open each week for some anime-watching. I’m still playing catch-up with a lot of series, but I guess I’ll have to postpone watching those because there’s several animes I’ve been looking forward to for this season.

Anime chart and comments after the break :p
